Celebrities are getting pictures taken of them by people that are called the paparazzi. The paparazzi can be very annoying to the celebs because some times you’re just not ready for the camera.
The “paparazzi” is a group of people that take pictures of celebrities for magazines. A good picture could be worth millions of dollars.
Some people think that the paparazzi could be the reason that some of the celebrities have emotional problems or get addicted to drugs or alcohol.
In some European countries they have made laws that you have to have the people’s permission before you are allowed to release the photographs. USA has been talking about making similar laws, but in Australia the paparazzi are allowed to take photographs of people even if they ask them not to.
The paparazzi say that if we as magazine readers didn’t buy the magazines then they wouldn’t have to get involved in the celebs life. They say that the people only want to know what’s happening because if the celebs take drugs then they can get into a lot of trouble.
The paparazzi can be a good way to help yourself become more famous, but it can also be a pain because they follow you around all day and can get really annoying. So I guess it’s a little bit like if you are a celebrity then you will have to put up with the paparazzi being on your back all the time.
I think that they should introduce the laws of paparazzi to Australia because sometimes you just want to be left alone.

Global warming is actually far worse than we thought it was. The Government has come up with a plan called Carbon Emissions Trading. Carbon Emissions Trading is when people who use too much Carbon Dioxide have to pay extra money.
Some people think that this is not a good idea because if we clean up our country then other countries will not take any notice, and China is making most of the pollution so why should we have to clean up.Some people also think that humans do not cause global warming, it just comes naturally.
While some people are saying negative comments, others are saying some positive points like, if our country cleans up it will make other countries do it as well. I think that Carbon Emissions Trading is a good idea because some people create way to much carbon dioxide.

Recently some teachers have been on strike. They have been doing this because they would like to receive a play rise.
A strike is when workers think that they and their work friends deserve a higher pay, so they leave work all together, for a little while and protest until their boss agrees to a pay rise.
Strikes are a powerful way for workers to get what they want because if a lot of workers leave work the company will be low on workers so they will have to get the workers to come back to work by giving them what they want.
Some strikes in the past have made a difference by giving teachers less working hours and more pay.
A union is a person who sets up or organises a strike for other people.
An illegal strike is when people don’t have the strike properly organised by a union.
Some people think that people go on strikes just because they want more money and their company can’t afford a strike.
I have been affected by strikes before because my teachers used to go on strike, so I missed a day of school.
I think the workers have the right to strike if the company can afford it, and as long as they have a good reason.

The Beijing Olympics are getting closer and closer, so the gymnasts from Mt. Waverly have been training hard for a position. 3 girls have been noticed for their great skill, balance and concentration.

Emma Denis, Shona Morgan and Georgia Bonora are three lucky girls form Mt. Waverly that might go to the Olympics. Emma Shona and Georgia are feeling really excited about maybe going to the Olympics. Mt. Waverly has helped the girls because of the different atmosphere, the equipment and their coach.

Gymnasts start training when they are young because your muscles and tendons are more flexible and you stay flexible when you grow up.

There are 6 spots for the Olympics and to get these positions the girls have to show their coaches that they can still do a great job under heaps of pressure. I think that the gymnasts would need strength, concentration, balance and be able to believe in them selves.

One of the bad things about being a gymnast is that you have to train for 30 hours a week, and you miss out on having parties and catching up with your friends.

Not long ago in Burma, located in South East Asia, between China and Thailand there was a cyclone. The cyclone that happened in Burma is called Cyclone Nargis. The cyclone was particularly devastating because families have lost loved ones and their homes. Read the rest of this entry »

At some schools around Australia, finger print scanners are being used as a roll. Normally schools would just call out a name and then tick them off. But lately some schools have been using a more modern, technology device. Instead of calling out a name at the start of the day, they have had to go to the office and scan their fingerprint. Alana Slater is one of the best gymnasts in the world. She has competed in the Olympics 2 times and the Commonwelth Games 2 times as well.
