Nargas – that’s the name of the cyclone that’s hit Burma, causing widespread disaster. And to add to the people of Burma’s woes the military government will only allow very few aid agencies in only from nations it trusts.  Asia that’s where Burma’s location is it’s south of Vietnam and Cambodia    Burma’s location is the reason why the cyclone Nargas was so devastating. The buildings in Burma were really bad quality and the people of Burma are very poor. So when the cyclone hit many people’s houses were destroyed.   Many of the challenges the people of Burma are faced with are dirty drinking water and not enough food. Probably the most deadly is disease. Who knows how many disease’s there could be in Burma. Your body can survive with not enough food for around two weeks, where your body can only survive with not drinking enough water for three or four days.  That’s why people in Burma have been dying over food starvation. Very sad.  Aid agencies are groups that give out food and much needed supplies to countries that have either bad social and political wars or violence. Or countries that have had recent natural disasters. Burma’s government is refusing help.  Only now at this date are they letting countries like the US, Australia, UK and Europe in. That’s because it’s a military government and they don’t elect their leaders. It’s the other way round - the leaders elect themselves.  The delay of the aid means more and more Burmese people have to put up with the pain of disease, the passing away of loved ones and much more trauma that people wish they don’t have to put up with.  The Australian government has responded saying it will give millions of dollars to Burma to help rebuild schools, hospitals and churches, you name it. I think the Burmese government will see the pressure it’s under from the media and other governments and its people and start allowing aid in.
