Lauren Jackson chose to play basketball in Russia because she would earn more money in Russia. She would earn 6 times more money in a year in Russia than she would over here in Australia. Russia is also famous for being one of the toughest  comps in the world.

Lauren said that the crowds in Russia are amazing, they are nothing like what the crowds are in Australia and America.

Lauren has been playing professional basketball for 11 years.Lauren started 11 years ago. She went to Korea and the United States where she became a world star. She then defeated all comers in Australia. 2 years ago she and the rest of her Australian team defeated Russia in the World Championships in RussiaIt was hard for Lauren to deny that offer because she would be getting paid 6 times more than what she would get paid in Australia.Height is an advantage in basketball because you can reack over people so it is harder for your opponent to get the ball and it put you closer to the ring - lauren is 1 of the most tallest female basketballers standing at 196cm tall. Her friend and team mate Cyala Fancis stands at 192cm.Lauren plays 2 games a week and trains twice a day that is 16 times she plays/trains in week altogether.Lauren feels sad to be out of Australia but she takes the Australian flag everywhere and is getting a tatoo of the Australian flag.Lauren is very excited about The Beijing Olympics and she says it is an honour to be playing. Her team mates are very excited aswell and are honoured to be playing.Lauren is a great tributer too basketball - both for her team and for the scoreboard. She is the Aussie’s key player at the Beijing Olmpics. Cayla fancis says the Lauren is amazing to watch and Cayla is very proud to know her and even play with her.

To get that extra one per cent that could mean gold, Aussie Olympians are turning to science. Which means that science could help with your fitness. It can also give the coach information on if the player is tired. So he can put fresh legs on the field.
GPS units are being used to help hockey players tell how far they have run and if they’re tired or not. The average distance for a 70 minute game is 10km no wonder they change interchange every 10 minutesl. The average football player runs 10km as well thats a long way.
The heat stress is a problem because the players body could over heat and it could cause dehydration and sickness because the normal temperate of your body is 37C. But it could get to 40C thats hot.
The capsule takes your temperature and tells if you’re tired or not. It works on your intestines and gets flushed out the other side once you’re done. I think it is fair because if you’re a rich country. You should be able to use it. But if you’re a pour country it is your own fault why don’t they move to a different country get a job and money and use the same science that we do.

Australian scientist’s think they have found a way to bring extinct animals back to life. Tasmanian tigers other wise know as Thylacine (which means pouch dog with wolf head) became extinct because of over hunting, habitat destruction and disease. The last time one of these animals was seen was at Hobart zoo in an enclosure.

Now scientists are taking the D.N.A. out of dead a Thylacine and putting it in unborn baby mice. D.N.A. OR genes are the things that make you who you are; there are genes for hair colour, skin colour, body build and a lot more. So if you get the genes from a dead Thylacine and put it in an unborn mouse the theory is that you would get an alive Tassie Tiger. Once they put the genes in the unborn mouse and left it in the lab for a while they could see the bone structure of a Thylacine in side the unborn mouse because they dyed the D.N.A. blue. This made the scientist get very excited. A lot of people think this is a good idea because it would be good to learn a lot more about these animals and they could bring back other animals as well like the Dodo.

Other people think this is the wrong thing to do because it is cruel towards the animals that have the D.N.A. injected into them. They also think it is dangerous to interfere with Mother Nature and they say the eco system has got used to not having the Tiger so it could cause trouble.

I agree with using D.N.A. for research on animals only. To use it on humans could be potentilla dangerous as the effects of cloning humans could cause serious disagreements among people politicians and religious groups around the world. Another thing that could happen is that when they clone the animals there might be behaviour differences and over things that could be potentially dangerous to the eco system.

Dairy farmers are teaching children about Dairy farming so when the children get older they can consider dairy farming. There is a program called cow to careers. Cows to careers look at how the dairy industry works and hep teach children about dairy farming. There is a special kind of cow called the Jersey cow. The Jersey cow produces fatty and creamy milk called Jersey milk which is very good for making butter and is very valuable too. Read the rest of this entry »

The main point about this story is about bringing extinct animals back to life like the Tasmanian tiger which has been extinct for the last 70 years.  The Tasmanian tiger is also known as the Thylacine which meant ‘wolf head’ and ‘pouch dog’.  A lot of experts think that the Tassie Tiger became extinct because people like to shoot them, their habitats were also being destroyed and a lot of them were killed by disease. There’s a lot of different ways to make electricity, but most of them have one thing in common. This thing is heating. People burn a different types of fuels to produce heating and then energy. And heating is pollution, and pollution is global warming and illnesses. The rubbish that is not recyclable is also a kind of pollution. It smells really nasty.
And people invented one more way to make energy. Methane, the greenhouse gas that makes really big heating when burnt out. And it’s quite environmentally friendly because it doesn’t produce toxic gases. Now over 1,500 houses are powered by bioreactor. The owner of the bioreactor is planning to make enough energy to power 15,000 houses. Who knows that stinky rubbish can be so useful!

Remember those little Tessie tigers well they died out 60 years ago. But scientists believe that they can bring these little tigers back to life. By putting the DNA  from a a Tasmanian tiger into an unborn mouse. So these little mice will be turned into tigers but there’s a problem you need 30 thousand cells instead of just a few.          China looked really nice before the earthquake came many people are dead some people still alive. Many homes have been destroyed but people still alive. The earthquake was in china’s Sichuan province near Chengdu.  Armies of specially trained rescue workers. The rescue workers use Sniffer dogs. But bad weather and broken roads have made it hard to reach the injured people. There have also been lots of after shocks, which are like mini earthquakes that cause more damage and panic. By the equipment they use might not make building fall. To see if people are in there and to see if anything is on fire. By helping them. And giving money to them. People that are really injured and people that are fine.

If you think of a shark you would probably think of a terrifying man eating creature but there is one person who thinks a lot different he is called Rob Stewart and sees sharks as the gentle dragons of the sea. He is trying to stop people thinking that sharks go around trying to kill people like in movies such as jaws, and make them believe that they are nice creatures.
Now he is making a movie about sharks and when he went to a marine sanctuary which is there to protect animals he found heaps of shark dead caught up in fishing lines and when he went to china he found hundreds of shark fins on roofs drying getting ready to be cooked into a shark fin soup which cost $400 per bowl. So he is disgraced to see thousand of sharks getting killed each year.
Also we shouldn’t be killing the sharks because they are a big help to the ecosystem because they eat the fish and if there is no sharks there would be too much fish and the fish eat the phyoplankton and if there is to not enough phyoplankton there is to much carbon dioxide in the water.
I think sharks are scary because they can be dangerous but they are nice if you are nice to them.

Mergers are when one company or sports team or what ever wish to take over another company or sports team. An example may be in soccer. Two teams are the best in the league so to become the best team they merge. $18 million dollars was offered by Westpac to St George and they accepted it and that’s a lot of money. The reason why Westpac wanted to merge with St George was Read the rest of this entry »
